We keep looking for elsewhere

We keep looking for elsewhere

It's easy to believe that somewhere else has all the answers.

A different city.

A different coastline.

A different country.

Sometimes it does.

Travelling has a way of changing how we see the world, and we'll never stop encouraging it.

But perhaps one of the most useful things travel teaches us is how to pay attention.

When we're away, we notice architecture. We sit in cafés without rushing. We wander streets with no destination. We photograph ordinary buildings because they're unfamiliar.

Then we come home.

And stop noticing.

The irony is that the same curiosity we take on holiday can completely transform an ordinary Saturday.

Visit the independent bookshop you've always walked past.

Order something different at the café you already know.

Turn left instead of right.

Leave the headphones at home.

Nearby doesn't have to mean predictable.

Sometimes all it takes is looking at familiar places with the attention we'd usually save for somewhere far away.

You might discover that what you were searching for wasn't somewhere else after all.

It was simply waiting for you to slow down long enough to see it.
