About

Why Balnakeil?

Modern life asks enough of us already. We believe your wardrobe shouldn't add to it. Balnakeil creates thoughtful clothing that works across more of your week, helping you spend less time deciding what to wear and more time enjoying the moments outside that make life feel better.

What does 'Balnakeil' mean?

Balnakeil comes from the Gaelic "Baile na Cille," meaning "town of the church." It is the name of a small village on Scotland's north-west coast, close to Cape Wrath. It's a place where the weather changes quickly, the landscape encourages you to slow down, and time outdoors feels different. Those values of simplicity, resilience and making the most of every opportunity to be outside, help inspire everything we make.

What makes Balnakeil different?

We don't believe you need one wardrobe for work, another for weekends and another for the outdoors. We design timeless clothing that works across more of modern life, built for British weather and made to be worn again and again.

Products

How do I choose the right size?

Each product includes a detailed size guide. If you're between sizes or would like advice, we're always happy to help.

Are your clothes suitable for everyday wear?

Yes. Every product is designed to work across more of your week, from commuting and work to weekends away and everything in between.

Are all your clothes waterproof?

Some are, some aren't. Product pages explain exactly what level of weather protection each piece offers, to keep you living outdoors as much as possible.

Don't I need technical outdoor clothing?

If you're climbing mountains or heading into extreme conditions, technical outdoor clothing is absolutely the right choice.

For most days, though, most of us don't need specialist outdoor gear. We design clothing for the way people actually live: commuting, meeting friends, walking the dog, travelling and weekends away. Timeless in style, built for British weather, and designed to help you spend more of life outside.

We offer free UK delivery on orders over £100. Orders below this amount are charged at standard rates. A standard UK order will normally cost around £5.99 at checkout.

How long will my order take?

As a small independent brand, every order is carefully prepared by our team.

Please allow 4–5 working days for us to process your order. Once dispatched, your parcel will be sent using a 48-hour tracked service, meaning most UK orders arrive within 7–10 working days.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we're exclusively a UK and European brand. As we grow, we'd love to introduce Balnakeil to new places.

Returns & Care

Can I return an item?

Yes. If something isn't quite right, we offer hassle-free returns within 30 days, as long as the item is in the same condition we sold it and with the original packaging. Check our returns page for full details.

How should I care for my clothing?

Our clothing is designed to be used across everything you do. Follow the care instructions on each garment—most pieces are machine washable and built to withstand regular wear. Always try to wash cold.

Sustainability

Are your products sustainable?

We're committed to making thoughtful choices wherever we can, from the materials we use to the partners we work with. We're a small brand and we know we won't always get everything right, but we'll always aim to make considered decisions and be open about the progress we're making.

We also believe one of the most meaningful ways to reduce waste is to create clothing you'll wear regularly for years, not just occasionally.

Why don't you talk more about sustainability?

Because we'd rather be honest than make claims we can't fully stand behind.

We're continually looking for better materials, better processes and better ways of doing things, but we don't believe sustainability is something any brand can simply declare it's achieved.

Our focus is on making thoughtful, versatile clothing that's built to last, worn often and made with care. We'll keep improving as we grow, and we'll be transparent about the choices we make along the way.
